Hi there! The large tank is heated by Propane. When the water gets hot it starts to thermo-circulate around the radiant heater part. The main tank has ribs on the bottom to maximize surface area for transferring heat from the propane flame. It is insulated(to stop heat loss out the tank) and vented (to prevent explosions). Pretty simple really, and it works! I'm sure there would be a lot you could do to improve this, I kinda just whipped this up in a flash !
